In 2019, Nathan White, in partnership with East Grinstead in bloom stared the rejuvenation of Moat Pond. The project was to restore the pond back to its former glory. This was to be done through work parties, clearing hedges, edging paths, litter picking and general maintenance. In 2019 we had an average of twelve volunteers on our monthly meets.

During the covid pandemic in 2020 the Pond became the go to point for people’s daily exercise. Many were so interested and could not believe the difference in the minor changes we made. That year we had fifty-nine ducklings and 8 goslings.

The plans of the pond were to be planted both terrestrial and in the water. Along, with snag and debris removal.

The main aim was to install an aerator in order to avoid the deadly oxygen crash of 2017. There were opportunities to link with national organisations to have legalised and enforced fishing on the pond. Along with connecting to schools, scout groups and environmental colleges to host events and educational displays of aquatic life.

Unfortunately, these plans were not able to be finished due to a break down between Mid Sussex District Council and ourselves.

As of  14.05.2026 we are awaiting any further information from Mid Sussex District Council if the pond could be transferred back to East Grinstead Town Council.
